Rob & Anna's Birthday Dinner

Every January (and in September/October for Mike and I) we party down with the Kontoes to celebrate our birthdays. Rob and Anna's birthdays fall in January. Here a few pictures from our evening at Mezza. Mezza is a wonderful Lebanese restaurant in Decatur. We had yummy tapas, 3 bottles of wine and then discovered belly dancing too!

Christmas 2009, at Mom's home

Mom and Mark missed Christmas with the family this year because they were stuck in Europe (rough life huh?) but we did manage to have a wonderful belated celebration the following weekend. Mark was too ill to join us though, hence him not being in the annual family foto.

This year, for some reason, was a really special Christmas for us as a family. Our children are old enough to enjoy it FINALLY, we've gotten into a really great set of traditions, one of which is having Rob's mom spend Christmas Eve night with us in our home. Since the passing of his father, the time we share with her over the holiday means so much more for us...it's almost bittersweet. We also got to spend some really wonderful time with Tony & Melissa on Christmas Eve! Mom and Mark were stranded in London that night and so the new Mr and Mrs came to our house where we ordered organic Thai food and shared a fantastic meal with Lois, them and the kids. It sounds odd, but we all kind of wanted to turn THAT into a tradtion - the meal not the absence of Mom and Mark! The simplicity of the meal, no cooking, no mess, no stress, muss or fuss was very liberating for us all. It allowed us all to focus on one another the entire time and not the preparation, serving and then cleaning of a home cooked meal. We had time to sing carols with TONS of cool instruments in the den in front of a roaring fire, open gifts and talk...it was so fun!

2009's Holidays were full of peace, fun, love and laughter. I know that it sounds like a Hallmark card, but they were. I felt so happy and content- my cup truly did runneth over.

Our little band of friends have begun a great tradition of a New Year's dinner party. It's one that requires us to dress up a bit- but not too much...one that is bring a dish and a cocktail to share. Oh and don't forget to bring your kids too! Yup. It's a child friendly kind of party. Rob and I hosted last year and the Kirklands hosted this year. We've entered that phase of our lives LOL. It was nice to be able to have fun with our grown up friends while being able to let the kids run a bit wild with their friends too. We all drank fancy french champagne (thanks Bret!), beer and sparkling cider AND enjoyed a great meal. Next year we invade the Williamson's home...they have 11 months to prepare!
